Monday, January 3, 2022. Heavy Rains Led to Sanitary Sewer Overflows in Forest Creek and Willamette River

(January 3, 2022) – Staff responded to a sanitary sewer overflow due to heavy rains at Lift Station 2 (1706 SE Oak Shore Ln.) and River Forest Rd. on Monday, January 3 that resulted in the release of approximately 120,000 gallons of raw sewage into the Willamette River on two occasions. The first occurred from 5:10 am until 6:25 am and the second occurred from 12:05 pm until 2:15 pm.

A manhole affected by the heavy rains also released raw sewerage on River Forest Rd. in the amount of 12,500 gallons that flowed into River Forest Lake.

Staff placed signs informing area residents about the spill in the vicinity of the incident. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has been notified.

As a precaution, the public is advised to avoid contact with the water for at least two days due to the possibility of bacterial contamination.
